Hi everyone! Today, I have finally published my 1000th blog and I am more than happy to share this day with you all. You kept me going and it’s you whom I seek to serve with my blog.
It has, indeed, been a journey of learnings, exploration, possibilities, and growth.
To delve deep into this journey, I would like to share with you the tools and practices that have helped me to keep going at it -
Quantity precedes quality - The more you write, the better you become at it. You get more chances to iterate your writing.
Doing a service to others - The blog isn’t about you. Remove yourself from this equation. It’s about how you can help others from your learnings and creative process.
You will always have something to share - You interact with the world on a daily basis. There won’t be a single moment when you feel you don’t have anything to share about.
Formatting doesn’t matter - Italics, bold, underlining, etc. don’t matter. At least, not when you are starting. You can always improve it in your future blogs.
Length of the blog doesn’t matter - It can be a 1-para blog or 1-sentence blog or even 1-word blog. Literally anything.
Resistance will tell you to quit. You’ll say - “If I published it yesterday, why not today?”- Resistance doesn’t want you to show up. She wants you to hide. You will be on the verge of missing your blog for that day. You have to let the sunk cost of writing every day kick in.
Don’t go for monetization of your blog unless you have built the habit of writing - When you are a new blogger, perfectionism is at its peak. With money involved, perfectionism is going to be off the charts. Focus on building consistency first.
Make it live - Open the blog page. Write the post and hit publish. Don’t go into editing mode.
Stop listening to critical voices - of people around you who aren’t involved in this game. of your mind who tries to convince you not to ship.
Make it fun. Play with it - Writing is meant to be fun. To explore what is present inside you. Take it out. Try different stuff. You’ll fall in love with it.
You’ll find time to write a blog when you search for it - There have been times when I have written my blog either in a metro/tube or in the office or at a party. I haven’t allocated any specific time during the day to write it. It has given me the freedom to write whenever I want. Point is, I make it live. Everyday.
Remove your focus from likes, comments, shares, subscribers - If you are focusing on these metrics and not your audience, you are in it for short term. You’ll end up pressuring yourself and leaving this game altogether. However, if you go deep into how best you can serve your audience, you’ll find them without having to focus on these phony metrics.
From a person who dreaded writing her English exam in school to now showing up daily for my blog, I have come a long way.
I hope to serve you like this every day. I’ll be most happy to receive and share your blog if you start one.
PS: I am conducting a workshop for the bloggers today from 2PM - 3PM IST: 101 on How to Set Up Your Daily Blog. You’ll learn the tools and practices to explore the creative energy within you daily.
It will be a 1-hour workshop. To guide you, I have invited Saurabh Mithal, founder of Passionately Curious and leader at Purple Space. Saurabh has been writing his blogs daily for the past 4 years and is going on an amazing streak with 1300+ blogs! Saurabh helps creatives & independent leaders overcome self-doubt & do marketing with empathy and compassion.
The workshop works if you come along with your fellow bloggers too. Share it if you can. The magic spreads with your generosity. You may use this link.
PS: If you don’t have a blog and want to set up one, well, you can join too!
Congratulations! Hope you keep going! Here's to 1000 more!
Congratulations on your 1000th blog, Khushi! Keep growing.
